Catherine Chambers was born in Adelaide, South Australia, spent her childhood in Essex, England, and has also lived in Zaria, northern Nigeria, and in the Algarve Hills, Portugal. After completing a degree in Swahili and African History at the University of London, Catherine went on to become an editor of educational books for Africa and the Caribbean. She draws her inspiration from her sons, her husband's photographs and her travels.

Caroline Mockford gained a degree in fine art from Norwich School of Art, England, before completing a teacher training course at Goldsmith's College, London. She went on to work as an art teacher and as an elementary school teacher, as well as and author and illustrator of children's books.
