Soolin's Barefoot Story
Hello everyone! Welcome to my Barefoot Books space! My journey with Barefoot Books began about ten years ago, when I was a new mom searching for meaningful stories to share with my child. As someone who didn’t grow up as a native English speaker and considers myself an international person—always living between worlds—I found it especially important to seek books that reflect diverse cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives.
With my faith-based perspective and a focus on social justice, I was drawn to the Barefoot Books Manifesto and its dedication to inclusivity and representation. Though I wasn’t always a book lover growing up, over the years, diverse stories have become my teachers, coaches, and mentors. Books have helped me connect the dots—shaping how I experience, view, think about, and act in the world through many different lenses.
I decided to become a Community Bookseller because I believe in the magic of storytelling and the ability stories have to unite people. My goal is to create a friendly, open, and safe space where everyone feels welcome to discover adventures—whether familiar classics or new favorites. Here, we can share our thoughts on books we love (or don’t love as much), and celebrate the many storytellers, illustrators, and authors who make up our vibrant literary community.
Through the Community Bookseller program, I’m committed to promoting reading and supporting diverse writers and illustrators. Hosting Barefoot events is a wonderful way to bring people together to celebrate stories in a relaxed, fun environment. Let’s connect, explore amazing books, and make memorable experiences together!
