Dena's Barefoot Story
Since 2007 I have had the pleasure of sharing these beautiful, diverse and inclusive books first in midcoast Maine and now in Santa Barbara, California! When my oldest son, Benjamin, received a diagnosis of Cornelia deLange Syndrome before his first birthday, I knew I wanted to stay home with him and take a break from classroom teaching. Barefoot gave me the opportunity to continue my work in literacy while having the flexibility to work around therapy and doctors' appointments and stay home with his younger brother, too.
I am passionate about inclusion, diversity, and raising my children to be compassionate, global citizens. Being part of the Barefoot mission to make a difference in this world through stories has been the perfect fit with my advocacy work. The opportunity to grow and learn as a professional has been invaluable and has led to new ventures and trips abroad that I never would have dreamed of!
