About Me

I love books and have since I was a little girl growing up on a ranch in Southern California. I wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder, Nancy Drew, and all the other heroines I encountered in my literary travels. I became a teacher to share my love of story with my students. I love the stories children tell and so appreciate the adults who continue to listen to their inner children and tell the stories that capture our imaginations. When I discovered Barefoot Books while on vacation in Maine, it was a match made in heaven. I bought Fiesta Feminina, a collection of Mexican Folk Tales, to share with my second and third graders back home in California. The gorgeous art and beautiful stories drew me in, and now three years later I continue to enjoy building my own Barefoot library at home and business at Dena's Barefoot Book Nook.

I love that I have this creative outlet and something magical to share with my community while I raise my beautiful sons, Benjamin and Noah. I especially love leading storytimes, running book fairs for schools and libraries, and setting up my "traveling bookstore" at local fairs and festivals. I have really been enjoying connecting with other Ambassadors through Facebook and Twitter and sharing ideas. Some of my new goals are to develop my online business and network as well as to help others start their businesses. I am so appreciative of the help I've received from my team leader and other experienced Ambassadors and really enjoy helping and encouraging others. I LOVE brainstorming ideas and finding new places to share Barefoot Books. Being part of the Barefoot community has been a wonderful adventure so far, and I am looking forward to seeing where it takes me next.
