The Barefoot Book of Stories from the Opera
Opera for Everyone!
Jul-1-2009When my son was four years old we took him to see "The Magic Flute", and he loved the scenery and costumes and music. Reading the story in the book brings the excitement of the opera back to him, All the stories in the book captivate my son and other children I have read it to..and now they are all anxious to attend the opera! A fantastic addition has been the stories and incredible music on cd. This is one of our favorite story cds to have in the car, and it was a wonderful source of entertainment during a recent power-outage where we listened to and acted out the operas by candlelight, the cd playing on a small battery operated player.
The Genius of Leonardo
An art story that is a life story
Jul-1-2009This book brings Di Vinci to children in the most beautiful way. My young son has been enamored with Di Vinci's works (especially the flying machine) since before he could even say "Di VInci", and I can not begin to tell you how much this book has meant to him...to be able to share it with other children and spark a glimmer of interest in them as well. Bimba Landmann's illustrations are stunning, and I recommend her art print from this book "Freeing the Birds". It is simple, but conveys a powerful message.
The Gigantic Turnip
The Classic Turnip Story!
Jul-1-2009This one is a favorite to read and perform!! The children enjoy counting the characters, the sing-song lilt, and of course finding that the "hero" of our story is the smallest creature on the farm!
The Faerie's Gift
Simple Wisdom
Jul-1-2009A fairy tales told again and again in many cultures, what would you do with one special wish? How do you balance your life and the lives of those whom you love? Tanya Robyn Batt and Nicoletta Ceccoli have again created a beautiful story that is a joy to read, and look at.
The Princess and the White Bear King
Another Great Folk Tale
Jul-1-2009The basis of this story is told in many cultures, with slight differences. This is a story I have told and read many times. Tanya Robyn Batt's telling is wonderful, and Nicoletta Ceccoli's illustrations are simply enchanting! A story of honesty, bravery, kindness and devotion. Miranda Richardson's narration is a fun addition.
Herb, The Vegetarian Dragon
Not just for vegetarians, but for EVERYONE!
Jun-23-2009This is one of my first and favorite Barefoot Books still in publication. It's a story about standing up for yourself, standing up for others, and getting along. (And of course veggies!) I have read it to children ages four to fourteen and everyone loves it. I have devised lesson plans and art projects and many wonderful open group discussions based upon this book.
The Prince's Bedtime
A Wonderful Bedtime Tale!
Jun-23-2009This is a wonderful book, in our house and when I go out for storytimes! The way the story flows, the wonderful charactors, and of course the ending is a storyteller's delight!
