Grandmothers' Stories

Wise Women from many cultures
Aug-15-2011

An inspiring collection of stories offering wonderful lessons along with entertaining and detail-rich content. These are stories passed down through cultures to teach lessons such as the value of hard work and treating others with kindness. The accompanying cds are read by Olympia Dukakis who is fantastic in this role. My daughters enjoyed these stories and still do, great life lessons. Stories from: Senegal, Japan, Russia, Hawaii, Mexico, Ireland, Germany and Sweden.

Who's in the Garden?

So much fun with little one!
Nov-24-2010

My niece and I read this book every time she comes over! The bright illustrations and rhyming text keep us turning page after page but first, we stop to see what's coming next! A sturdy lap book, my copy is well loved and still in beautiful condition for us to read again and again!

Baby's First Journal

Beautiful and thoughtful
Jul-26-2010

There is so much thought put into the creation of this book and it is truly a success! There are pockets for keepsakes, places for photos and spaces to record special milestones. New mothers have so much to think about and want to keep record for their baby to enjoy when they are grown. This beautiful book is an excellent gift and will be treasured for a lifetime.

Kids' Garden

Outsanding!
May-26-2010

This deck is just bursting with ideas for parents and teacher to help children learn about the world that is growing around us. There are inside activities for a rainy day and inspiring, fun ideas to help our children enter the garden and learn! Seriously, an incredible tool for any family or classroom!

Lin Yi's Lantern

following directions pays off
Feb-4-2010

Lin Yi's Lantern is a sweet story of culture, grace and family relationships. Li Yi's mother gives him a job and he stays on task. There are temptations along the way but because he does the right thing, there is reward. The art is breathtaking and the characters are quite like-able. I also LOVE the step by step instructions on making a Chinese lantern in the back of the book. This really makes our reading time into quality time spent together talking about difficult choices in life and how choose to handle them.

Kangaroos Have Joeys

Captivating
Jul-29-2009

Melodic and beautiful, I am thrilled by this latest lap book featuring art from Phillipa Alys-Browne. The mothers and babies from each species are so gingerly interconnected by the colors and positioning in her art. The verse gently carries reader through from one page to the next. Anyone looking for a parent-child connection can draw the parallel. Finally, the information at the back is useful as your child grows. Absolutely stunning as a gift or a snuggle up and share book. Highly recommended!

Shopping with Dad

So much fun!
Jun-25-2009

Shopping with Dad is an entertaining tale of a little girl who joins her father on an adventure at the grocery store. You will quickly notice an adorable mouse as part of the illustration on each page and laugh out loud at Mum's silly shopping list! I love the theme of accountability where many people blame her father for the wrecked display and this young lady claims responsibility. The tone her father sets is sweet and focuses on the fact that accidents are just that ~ excellent book to share with little ones you love!

Secret Seahorse

Secret Seahorse - little one's favorite book
Jun-24-2009

I discovered the the magic of Secret Seahorse while working with toddlers who were eager to share with me their "reading" talents. The rhyming verse soothed them while the excitement of finding the hidden seahorse made everyone want to participate in my storytelling. Something about the art of Clare Beaton attracts the attention of little children. I share Barefoot Books with my community as an Ambassador and many parents tell me that Secret Seahorse is their baby's favorite book. Simply a wonderful endorsement!

Shakespeare's Storybook

Shakespeare's Storybook
Jun-22-2009

This books is a family favorite. We listen to the cd in the car and have wonderful discussions about the elements of a great story ranging from vocabulary to character development. It's such a bonus that the entire family is engaged and entertained! When we see a Shakespeare production the next time, we will have another perspective, follow the plot more easily and enjoy his verse and the acting. Great book!
