This is a must have for every young child's bookshelf. It takes place in the Tehran of this Israeli singer and author's birth, giving the book its brilliant hues and magical artwork. But really the story itself could occur in any number of places. It's about the beauty and kindness that lives inside extraordinary people. In fact, one might substitute the word "Brave" in the title with "Kind", "Compassionate", even "Listening." I point to this final word "Listening" because this is exactly why our protagonist, the young Shiraz, is so extraordinary -- she has learned to listen not just with her ears, but with her heart. Don't be fooled by the seeming Cinderella- like start to the book. This comparison ends on page 1. Like Shiraz herself, this story is far more than it may first appear to be. Unusual and beautiful.
