I Took the Moon For a Walk has been a family favourite for many years. Alison Jay's illustrations always tell so much more than the words - every page has something to explore and talk about on it. The story has a lovely soothing pace and is a wonderful end to any day. At the back there is some information about the moon and other nocturnal things to share and learn too, which adds interest in older children and helps build vocabulary in younger ones.
My two little dragon-lovers have put Herb onto their favourites shelf - they love the bright colours and talking through what they can see in the pictures. Both girls love taking the time to name all the vegetables Herb is growing in his garden, which I have to say has encouraged a bit more carrot eating in the house! I love that the story is not just about being a vegetarian, it's about respecting your beliefs and sticking by them while also respecting what others believe.
