This family event is Creasey Mahan's annual celebration of community and nature. Partake in Free picnic food, music, kid's activities, select vendors, including Barefoot Books, a silent auction, and the preserve's idylic natural setting. The stewardship support of sponsors allows this event to be offered without charge. But grassroots support is encouaged and appreciated in the form of a $5 donation from attendees; these donations help sustain the preserve's on-going family nature experiences. Jan-26-2012This review was written for ChildrensNatureGuide by Lucy Koesters and her nine-year old daughter, Gracie - Winter Shadow is a wonderful, amazing book that kids of all ages will love. It has a magical touch that will make you feel like you can't put it down. It tells the story of a nine-year old girl named Maria, and the wolf pup Shadow, whom she raised. Shadow grows older and eventually, one night for the first time, she hears Shadow howl. Maria knew in her heart that Shadow loved her, but was it time for him to return to the wild? Winter Shadow is such a lovely book. It gave me a feeling that I was a part of nature. I liked the descriptions of the seasons, the winter woods, and of raising a wolf pup - something most people will never get to do. The feeling of Winter Shadow will stay with you for a long time and make you want to read it over and over.
