Founded by two young mothers in England in 1992 and based in Cambridge, MA, Barefoot has published 600+ books for children that encourage discovery, compassion, creativity and global awareness. Their first app, Barefoot World Atlas, has 4 million downloads and their YouTube Channel has over 70 million views. Most importantly, over nearly a quarter of a century, Barefoot has put more than 20 million books into the hands of children around the world. With a mission to “Share Stories, Connect Families, and Inspire Children,” Barefoot is now leveraging its vibrant, timeless family brand with a social selling model that empowers women entrepreneurs.

Nancy Traversy
CEO & Co-Founder, Barefoot Books

Nancy grew up in Canada and moved to England with Price Waterhouse in 1985. She discovered her latent love of color and design in her mid-20s and spent several years in London's design industry before starting a consultancy helping creative startups. When her eldest daughter was 3-weeks old, she co-founded Barefoot Books in 1992. Nancy now has four wonderful grownup Barefoot children and lives in Concord, MA with her husband and lots of animals.

Tessa Strickland
Co-Founder & Advisory Editor, Barefoot Books
Co-Author of The Barefoot Book of Children 

Tessa Strickland co-founded Barefoot Books with Nancy Traversy in the early 1990s, and has gone on to create many highly acclaimed children’s books, including the numerous books she has written as Stella Blackstone. She is also mother to three adult children, a yoga practitioner and a licensed psychotherapist.

 As Senior Editor at Barefoot Books, Kate DePalma has helped develop dozens of picture books; Kate also writes picture books under her pseudonym, Sunny Scribens. She holds an M.A. in Classics from the University of Texas and is also a published poet and scholar.

Stefanie Paige Wieder, M.S.Ed, is Senior Director of Product at Barefoot Books and a child development expert with over 20 years of experience. She earned her dual master’s in Early Childhood General & Special Education / Infant & Parent Development & Early Intervention from the Bank Street Graduate School of Education and her B.A. from Harvard University.
